Team wheelchair fencing excites the crowd at the Paris 2024 Paralympics
Wheelchair fencing is played in 40 countries and 13 were on stage today …
Thursday 5 September was Teams Day for wheelchair fencing events at the Paris 2024 Paralympics in the Grand Palais venue. One team, one country.
The competing 13 teams were: Brazil, China, France, Great Britain, Hong Kong China, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Thailand, Ukraine, and the United States of America. Iraq did not start.
The country fields a team of 3 or 4 members – and all members must have reached a qualifying round in their individual competitions during the week. The winner is the first to reach 45 points.
In the Semi-finals of the Women’s Foil, Hungary defeated Hong Kong China (45 to 29), and China defeated Italy (45 to 41). In the Semi-finals of the Men’s Foil, Great Britain defeated France (45 to 25) and China defeated Italy (45 to 36).
In the women’s event, China won gold beating Hungary (45 to 34), and Italy took the bronze medal after beating Hong Kong China (45 to 33).
In a double for China, in the men’s event, China won gold beating Great Britain (45 to 34), and France took the bronze medal after beating Italy (45 to 36).
The Men’s and Women’s Epée individual competitions are scheduled on Friday, with Team Epée events on Saturday 7 September.
